Modesto Irrigation District

Modesto ID operates a large network of canals, pumping plants, pipelines, and other control structures to deliver irrigation water to 58,000 acres of productive agriculture lands in the areas of Modesto and Waterford, California.  Opportunities were identified to improve operational efficiencies in the system through an extensive and costly combination of new system infrastructure and water control facilities.  These improvements allow MID to significantly reduce its historical system operational losses while maintaining or improving water delivery service to its agricultural customers.

Merced Irrigation District

This district-wide project has included both major structural changes and hundreds of small upgrades in order to transform the entire district into an "on-demand" system with improved water level control down the Main Canal "super-highways". Project highlights include:

  • Constructing a dozen new regulating reservoirs to provide increased flexible water deliveries upstream and downstream; restart downstream flow rates at any time; simplify management operations for district personnel; and reduce spills at tail ends of laterals.
  • Improving flow measurement and control at key points.
  • Creating new pumpback, intertie, and diversion pipelines to recirculate flow variations.
  • Change the existing control directions to intentionally divert flow variations to reservoir locations.
