Summary
Data were collected from 187 conventionally-irrigated (furrow) fields, as well as 164 drip-irrigated fields in Westlands Water District. Additional fields that had been considered for this study in Panoche WD were not used because of the lack of complete data. The fundamental question was whether drip irrigation results in less deep percolation than furrow irrigation. The study found that there is a significantly lower deep percolation with drip irrigation than with furrow irrigation. Additionally, there was no significant difference in tomato yields between furrow and drip irrigation.
