Basic Soil, Plant and Water Relationships - Landscape

This one-day training session prepares landscape professionals for the basic concepts and terminology encountered in evaluating irrigation systems.  Topics include soil texture, water holding capacity, intake rates, and evapotranspiration (plant water use).  The class is a foundation for the material to be covered in the Landscape Irrigation Auditor class.  A portion of the course is spent in the field getting hands-on experience with the latest techniques in evaluating soil moisture levels as well as some old-fashioned techniques.  This training session is a recommended prerequisite to taking the Landscape Irrigation Auditor class.

Landscape Irrigation Auditor

This two-day training session prepares landscape professionals to perform site inspections, evaluate irrigation systems, and develop efficient irrigation schedules for drip, bubbler, microspray and sprinkler systems. Several hours of the course are spent in the field performing "landscape irrigation audits" and at the computer generating irrigation schedules with the Landscape Water Manager software. Benefits from audits include water and cost savings, as well as improved landscape health and appearance. This training session is a prerequisite to taking the Landscape Irrigation Auditor Certification exam offered by the Irrigation Association - the exam is administered at the end of the 2nd day of class.

8 hours of PCA credit approved by the Calif. Dept. of Pesticide Regulation.  13.5 CCA hours approved by the California Certified Crop Advisor.

Landscape Sprinkler and Microirrigation Design

This two-day training session provides an introduction to the principles of sprinkler and microirrigation design for landscape systems.  It is mandatory that the student have some hydraulics background or has taken the ITRC Hydraulics class as a prerequisite to this course.  The following are some of the topics covered over the 2-day class:

  • Valves, piping, pipeline sizing

  • Sprinkler selections, designing blocks

  • Hydraulics of hoses, emitters, and sprayers

  • Equipment selection and maintenance of the system

  • Matching equipment to plant materials and other stations

Certification

ITRC administers the Landscape Irrigation Auditor Certification exam for the Irrigation Association on the evening of the second day of the Landscape Irrigation Auditor class (Aug. 20 and Dec. 17).
